The Group for New Music and the Percussion Area join forces with faculty and student instrumentalists and vocalists from the School of Music to present Steve Reich’s Music for 18 Musicians. This year marks the 50th anniversary of this landmark hour-long piece, which represents Reich’s move from his stark, early works into a timbrally rich musical world whose rapidly pulsing surface and slowly moving harmonic shifts exerted a defining influence on American minimalism. Seldom heard live, this concert will be a BYU premiere.
